Under the boardwalk

New Jersey

So Jersey can get a bad rep but to me Jersey was a big part of my childhood and summer vacations. When I think of Jersey, I think of the “shore,” the boardwalk and memories of me and my friends thinking we were the hottest things with our henna tattoos and matching lifeguard sweatshirts.

So to start I thought I would share some pretty cool facts about the state that I never knew…

• New Jersey is home of the most diners in the WORLD!!! I did not know that, I clearly need to check one of them out next time I venture too far on the PA turnpike.
• New Jersey has a state DINOSAUR… I did not even know that states had dinosaurs or even know how to pronounce half of them. Their state dinosaur is a hadrosaur. A fossil of that dinosaur was found in Haddonfield, NJ! I can’t wait to tell my first graders that this year during our fossil unit!
• And lastly, men are not allowed to knit during fishing season. Thank you Jersey for keeping a man’s priorities straight.

So look at that, Jersey is a pretty interesting state!

Since I have grown up going to the Jersey shore, the state is not new to me, however, I wanted to check out the state again since its only been a couple years since I was there in high school. well maybe a decade…
 
So these are the places you MUST try if you head to OCNJ.

1. Ocean City Coffee Company – Their coffee was so amazing, I did not even need any creamer or sweetener in my iced coffee. And trust me, I am that girl at Starbucks that asks for a splash of creamer (less cals) then I add more myself…. Maybe it just makes me feel better than ordering EXTRA creamer.​

Bungalow Bowls – AHH I LOVE ACAI! This place was definitely booming but it was worth the wait. Their menu was incredible! Nothing is better than being hot at the beach with a frozen fruit meal in hand.​

Dot’s Pastry Shop – This place was so cute and their donuts were served hot and fresh! They are known for their crème filled donuts and they are SO GOOD! Its cash only so be prepared! 

Now on to the ingredients,

1. M&M's – Did you know that M&M’s are made in Newark, New Jersey?! So this clearly had to be a main ingredient in our cookie.
2. Johnson’s popcorn – I mean who doesn’t LOVE popcorn especially when it is made hot with caramel and butter! It’s a must do on the boardwalk besides hardcore people watching!​

With those main ingredients, I introduce 

The J-Wow

 Salted chocolate chip cookie with M&M's and Johnson's famous popcorn!

This is the cookie’s name for a combination of reasons. The obvious one, Jersey and Johnson start with J. And second reason is J Wow was the name of one of the characters from the classic tv show, Jersey Shore. However, fun fact, only two of the Jersey Shore characters are actually from Jersey.
